Hood panel molding (ABS trim at nose) found to be loose. Determined that upward forces needed to raise hood is alwyas concentrated just beneath this trim resulting in eventual failure of retaining clips (underside of trim) that are integrated with the injected-molded trim piece. Once the clips break off, there is no longer a physical connection between the hood panel molding and the hood. If left unattended, the panel will eventually fall off and be lost on the road. OEM cost: around $75. Once re-installed, it's only a matter of time before the failure repeats itself. I've since removed the trim, polished the painted surface beneath, inserted stainless button head cap screws and washers through the original mounting holes for a neat tech look. I may cut a piece of perforated polished aluminum to replace the original hood panel molding. Photos of same forthcoming.
