Hello I am new here,

I have a 02 Protege5, stick shift, around 150K

one day I punched the gas for 10 seconds cause someone kept high beaming me at night, and next thing i know I have a rough idle with (Check Engine light on), I drove it 5 miles out and 5 miles back.

My OBD2 says I have misfire at cylinder 3.
I have CHANGED:::

  • ALL COILS
  • ALL SPARK PLUGS
  • PCV VALVE
  • REPLACED ALL FUEL INJECTORS
  • CLEANED EGR VALVE
  • CHECKED CYLINDER COMPRESSION &
and all cylinder compression is fine.

Now car starts and drives fine but there is a little backfire coming from air intake, and at times a little rough idle with backfire while idling.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON BUT NOW IT SAYS MISFIRE AT CYLINDER 4

I SWITCHED ALL SPARK PLUGS AROUND
AND SWITCHED TO OLD COILS THEN BOUGHT NEW SPARK PLUGS.

Still CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, and with backfire with slight rough idle.

PLEASE HELP, I am stuck.

Silly question but some times it can be:
Bad grounds
Vac lines

Sounds like you changed all of the things that you should have changed. If it is running rich then it could be something with EFI? I dunno man.

Thanks so much for the suggestion, anything is everything at this point for me. EFi is in good working order as is the grounds.

I am no mechanic, I just started doing things on my own to save money but just stuck now at the moment.
