Okay i must be a total moron cause i cant figure this out. I have a a/m head unit. A pioneer to be exact. I want to install it in my millenia. I bought everything I need and the stereo is on but no sound is coming out. This car has the bose stereo system in it. Am i missing something here. I tested to see if i have any voltage coming out of the speakers and my test light did actually light a little but i dont have any music at all. Someone please help me. Thanks Lee

Is the head unit used or taken out of another vehicle... If your not careful when removing a unit or any of the ends touch the sound processor in the player can be damaged.

Unit will function perfectly but no sound is played. Happens with a lot of pioneer for some reason.

try putting a speaker directs on the headunit to see if any sound comes out at least that way you could narrow it down to the unit or the car.

I'm not sure if any of the bose equipment would cause this problem.

I have a '98 S, and I had the same problem with my Sony unit. The problem is the Bose system.

Make sure you have the amp turn-on/remote wire connected. On my car, it's the light green/red wire on the factory harness. This wire tells the amp to turn on, if the amp doesn't turn on you won't get any sound. This, unfortunately, didn't work for me. I ended up having to bypass the factory amp, and replace all of the Bose speakers.

If you do bypass the amp and keep the Bose speakers, you'll have to get some ohm converters or you'll risk blowing your headunit. I believe Bose speakers are 2-ohm, whereas a typical speaker is 4-ohms.

And yeah, it sucks hard.

I've was powering the Bose speakers with my Pioneer head unit for a while and had no problems with it. I was driving the rear 6x9s as subwoofers and the HU powered them nicely. The Pioneer (DEH-7400MP) never went into overload protection or got any warmer than it usually does. I just ran speaker wires to the trunk and spliced into the harness that connects to the Bose amplifier to power all 4 speakers.

Hmm, so you just bypassed the amp? What year is your Millenia (assuming this was done in it)? Maybe the later models actually use normal speakers for a change. :p[/b]
It's a 1999 model. The DC resistance of the speakers is too low for them to be 4-ohm. Definitely 2-ohm or close to it. The front speakers are individually amped on the older models, so a simple amp bypass in the trunk wont work. The Pioneer HU seemed to handle them fine. I'm using a 2-ohm stable Kenwood 4-channel amp to drive the Bose speakers now.

The new head unit hooked into the bose unit definitely made the volume very sensitive but stereo sounds just as awesome as the old one and now I can listen to my mp3's. The info from baba ram dass was awesome. I GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!
