Hi, I'm relatively new to classic motoring but have amature experience in general.

The "Can-Type" ignition coil arcs intermittently when driving, and occurs more often when driving around a city for example (I assume related to something overheating).

The arcing of this ignition coil directly coincides with a misfire from one cylinder only. (On some rare occasions it has ran on 3 cylinders.)

New spark plugs have recently been fitted, other than that I believe the ignition system is factory original. Contact points in the distributor have mild corrosion and ignition coil appears to be covered in oil.

Any suggestions on how to fully diagnose the problem?
