Hello,

I recently just bought a mazda3 not too long ago. I live in PA and was wondering if putting in a cold air intake would be a good idea or if it was even legal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

what do you expect to gain from a cold air intake? more noise? yup. more hp? maybe a tiny bit, but at the high end of the engine rev limits. so, how often do you drive around at 7000 rpm, and are you really going to feel 5 hp? also, if the intake is not designed properly, you might end up with water getting into the intake. then you get to buy a new engine. or, and a common problem, is oil contamination of the maf. you might want to do more research on how effective the filters are on those systems. they allow more particles into the engine, which can increase wear. and a cold air intake is a misnomer. more like, a marginally cooler air intake. and if it is still under warranty, it wont be after a marginally cooler air intake is installed

What year you got? Shouldn't be any legal issue. Intakes usually give minimal hp gain for mazda 3 especially in PA weather, unless you are up to some racing or want some additional roaring engine sound.
A buddy from Texas do some drags and got K&N kit for his '07 3 Mazdaspeed 2.3l and claim some hp at 4300rpm, check it out:
