saw an offer for a 2015 cx-5 touring with 120k for about $10k.
the carfax came out clean, regular oil changes, no accidents.

is 120k too many miles ??
what is the average lifespan before transmission or engine needs to be replaced?
what should i look for when inspecting the vehicle?

I would not look at the mileage. To me, service history is more important.

The 2017 models and up got the refresh so it is worth considering them. My wifey drives a '18 CX5. So far, no maintenance or reliability issues. It is currently stock except for the floor mats and exhaust tips that I got from 4wheelonline.

120k miles is not bad at all for these skyactive engines. I see many 14-16 model Mazda’s with well over 120k miles still kicking very strongly. Of course they do leak oil from the timing cover but that’s not really much to worry about since they all do that, like bolton38 stated the service history is gonna be the big helper on this. As long as the maintenance has constantly been kept up on I don’t see why you shouldn’t take a good look at the vehicle.
