Hey...I am a new 99 millenia S owner...33.5k miles. I have always been a fan of millenia s and think it is a great car for the $$$. I love the ride but not a big fan of the lag off the line. I am not a performance mod specialist and was wondering if there is anything that I can do that will not require me to take to the shop. I have seen alot of posts regard K&N filters...is there something I can purchase and put in myself?

Any other suggestions regarding care of my s? i.e, fuel, oil, polish for wheels, etc.

Thx in advance.

I've noticed that if you just use midgrade fuel, the car runs like a turd. If you use the 93 premio, it runs a lot better. I guess the car is sensing knock with crappy fuel and retarding the timing giving you less power. All our millenia's feel like turds taking off the line especially in this hot weather. There's not a whole lot you can do abut that. The car was not built for drag racing, so it's just not all that quick right out of the hole. Of course things like freer flowing intake and exhaust will help you however. As far as where to get hte parts, you'll sort of have ot piece it together your self. Find the right size opening for a K&N, and in fact a few guys have already done this, check their posts. I wouldn't recommend making your millenia sound like a 17yr olds civic with a fart pipe, but if you want you could remove restrictors in the exhaust to make it flow better. AT this time, supposedly a new pulley for the supercharger is being researched. This should yeild more gains than any of the other mods you could do. However, right now there's just not a whole heck of a lot you can do without some major investment of time and money.

I heard that a freeflow cat converter is a really good upgrade to get, I guess it is the most restrictive part on the exaust system.

the S requires 91 octane minimum. if you want some more kick, drive with the traction control (TCS) off. the TCS works great in wet weather, but other than that dont need it if you wanna move. i have a 99 S myself and i love it. there isnt a huge aftermarket for the millenia at the moment, but there supposedly will be for all mazdas soon. i.e. ford focus aftermarket. as far as getting of the line quicker all depends on the traffic your in. rush hour traffic in hot weather will soak the intercooler and she'll feel sluggish. she may not be the fastest off the line, but wait till someone wants to pass u and see what happens to them B) .

as for all the mods i've heard around here, so far getting the "jet chip" and a better intake and exhaust set up yeilds really good returns. just look around, sometimes there is information about all types of stuff under totally different post headings. the pully is the latest thing ive heard, but havnt talked to anyone who actually got this done. there was also talk about upgrading the milly's torque converter to allow for gains while shifting. here is that web site http://www.levelten.com/store/import/items...a_converter.htm
i havnt personally looked into this one yet, but it sounds good.

glad to see another milly owner out there in this forum. good luck
