what would be the problem cuz the truck i bought hasnt ran in years but the battery can turn on lights

Pistons frozen? You have to turn-over manually first. I would remove the spark plugs spray some penetrating into the cylinders and turn over manually. Did you empty your gas tank and fill some fresh gasoline?

1. Clean the battery terminals real well.
2. Try a jump start from another vehicle.
3. Get your battery tested UNDER LOAD. Just because the lights turn on means little.

Look up failure to crank on Google.

Battery could be crap. I hate to replace mine with only 36 thousand miles on it. Apparently that is the new thing with car makers, they put crap batteries in their cars.
