Hi guys, my mom's miata just failed a smog check and her mechanic (he's trustworthy, we've known him for years) said that the cats were bad. I'm pretty sure her car is a 2001, and it's automatic if that matters. Where could I find a good price on new cats?
Catylitic converters typically last for the life of the car unless there's a problem with the engine causing them to fail early. Failing emissions could also be engine management related and have nothing to do with the cat-cons.
Rainydave is right about the extended warrenty on the exhaust and emissions system. Federally mandated for 8 years / 80,000 miles. I'd call Mazda first before cutting a check to the local mechanic.
lol go to a state with out the tests. But what year is the car??
